With this purpose an analysis was made of some samples of the Oratory of the Genealogy of the Virgin with the objective to distinguish between the posterior materials and original techniques and interventions.
Moreover, the question was made if the treatment of the surface obeyed the materials and used techniques in the Indo-Portuguese art or if it dealt with a workmanship made by Portuguese craftsmen. In this context, the study focused on the observation of the succession of layers of polychromic and gilding as well as, in the identification of the resin, agglutinants, pigments and charges present in some samples. These had come to corroborate the surface comments from that the part had suffered to some modifications at the polychromic level.
The samples were analyzed in stratigraphic cut for optic microscopy; with microspectroscopy of FTIR (Nexus and Continmum-Nicolet) in tablet of KBr and for compression in the diamond cell; by microspectroscopy of XRF (ArtTAX) with external probe; e with the use of fluorescent dyes.
